Welcome. I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I was born in Scotland in 1959 and brought up in Gloucestershire. My interest in maps and the countryside was sparked at school in geography lessons and then during expedition training with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. I completed Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
I have been active throughout my life, whether it be walking or playing sports, mainly cricket, football, squash, badminton and swimming.
Following the death of a good friend, Richard, from a heart attack friends and family of Richard have carried out an annual challenge in Richard’s memory. The first one was the Three Peaks, (Ben Nevis, Scaffell Pike and Snowdon). Taking part in these challenges relit the fire in me and I decided to extend myself by setting my own challenges.
Having walked The Cotswold Way and The Thames Path I looked further afield with his first overseas trek being climbing Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, and one of the Seven Mountains in 2016. Since then I have visited Nepal four times, trekking variously to Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes and Annapurna Base Camp. I have also trekked to Machu Picchu and summitted Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa and Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, the third highest mountain on an island in the world.
